It wasn’t an amazing read, but it kept me somewhat entertained for a few days. Jennifer is a likable character. She’s stubborn, intelligent and funny. Royce...well Royce is every bad boy you read about: sexy, powerful, etc.

The story definitely had its moments. I think the overall plot was pretty interesting. Jennifer is the ostracized daughter of a laird sent to live at a convent. She is kidnapped by Royce’s men and used as a hostage (first half of the story), but in a turn of events she is forced to marry Royce to stop the conflict between him and her family (second half of the story). Decent plot. Poorly executed.

I think a problem a lot of erotic novels have is balancing plot and smut. Some erotic stories are so sex-heavy that you’re left with hardly any plot between the 20 page long sex scenes. This is the opposite: stretches of somewhat dull plot only to be given mediocre sex scenes.

(Warning: if you’re looking for hot and heavy sex this isn’t the book for you. More of a lot of sexual tension with little pay off)

The sexual tension between Royce and Jennifer was honestly the best part of this book. I found myself skipping pages until they were interacting with each other. Watching them fight but crave each other was great, but Judith McNaught tried to use this plot device for the entire book. It was a never ending series of: “you’ve made me mad so I’m not going to have sex with you” followed by “ok i forgive you let’s have a short, PG-13 moment at the end of the chapter.” Young adult romances have better build up then this and they don’t have the crutch of using sex to establish a bond.

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes and fight my way through the book.

I did finish it though. And there were scenes i enjoyed especially the tournament at the end, but this book was lackluster. The sex wasn’t good enough to save it and the plot wasn’t good enough to get away with no explicit sex scenes.

I don’t really recommend this book, but maybe if you’re trying to take a baby step into the world of erotic novels this could be a gateway.

A Kingdom of Dreams

This is my happy place.

“I used to plan a kingdom of my own.
It wasn’t a real kingdom with land and castles; it was a kingdom of dreams—a place where things would be just the way I wanted them to be.”

This quote describes exactly how I feel about this book. It’s like Judith McNaught created a kingdom of MY dreams and everything is just the way I want it to be. What a wonderful story! I read this book for the first time several years ago and I fell irrevocably in love. I’m so glad I made time to indulge in this one again<3

Unforgettable Characters
A Kingdom of Dreams managed to burrow deeper into my heart. I simply adore these characters. Jennifer and Royce are unforgettable. It’s a battle of wills with these two at every turn and I found them completely fascinating and irresistible. Love is a battlefield indeed. There’s nothing I didn’t like about these characters. I hung on their every word and often caught myself grinning like a fool with their amusing banter. I could seriously live in those conversations. Royce Westmoreland, a.k.a. “The Wolf,” had me mesmerized from the first moment he appeared in all his swoon worthy glory. My God, the way McNaught makes this character vividly come to life. It really was inevitable from the start; this fierce warrior conquered my heart.

Unforgettable Kisses
McNaught writes the most breathtaking kisses I have EVER read. From just a single kiss, you sense such an incredible ardor, an all-consuming passion, and experience a myriad of emotions that leave you positively breathless *SWOON* I wish I had better words to describe it because I'm not doing it justice.

Just read this book and experience it all for yourself. You must!

“After all, it’s not every day a woman is given a kingdom of dreams.”

This is the third novel I read by Judith McNaught and her storytelling has enchanted me each time.
(Whitney, My Love; Once and Always).
I plan to read ALL her historical romance novels<3
This book has a little bit of e everything. There are parts that are incredibly funny. For example, the times when Jennifer tries to get away from Royce, when she confronts him, and when she tells him the stories of why she was sent to the Abbey. The relationship between aunt Elinor and the knights, specially Arik, is hilarious. There are some parts of the book that are extremely sad. Specially when William is killed and when Jennifer's dad tries to manipulate her against Royce. But the best part of the book is when Jennifer finally surrenders to Royce and their love is able to conquer all obstacles. This is truly a wonderful book. I have already read it twice and I know I will revisit it in a few months.
This is an oldy but a goody. I love these enemies-to-lovers stories, and JM seems to dish them out on silver platters. She always has the perfect amount of conflict to keep me invested. Not to mention, her heroes make me drool.

I'll admit that this isn't my favorite by JM, but it's certainly one of the best historicals I've read.

Tough heroine meets warrior hero. And it was delightful. The heroine was sent to an abbey, although she isn't nun quality in the least. She gets captured and taken to Royce's camp. Some attraction begins. Some sizzling chemistry. And then some steam. But a misunderstanding has them hating one another, while they are forced into a marriage...

A great one by McNaught that you shouldn't miss if you love medieval.
